OBSBOT Tail 2 Firmware Update Guide

Note:
  • Before upgrading, make sure the device's battery level is above 10% if charging or above 25% without charging.
  • Prepare in advance a MicroSD card inserted in the Tail 2 device, and ensure it has enough storage space for the firmware file.

1. Upgrade Prompt

When new firmware is available for Tail 2, a notification will pop up when you access the camera via the Obsbot Start App.

2. Download Firmware

Click "View" to go to the download page, and then click "Download and Install". The App will start downloading the firmware file.

During the download process, you can exit the page, and the download will continue in the background.

Note:
If you are using a cellular data connection, a notification will appear to confirm whether you want to use cellular data for downloading. 

3. Install Firmware

After the download is complete, the App will automatically start the firmware update. 

If you exited the download page earlier, a prompt will appear to remind you to start the upgrade when the download is finished.

You can also check for the latest firmware update in "More Settings" > "About Device" > "Firmware" > "Update".

Note:
  • The update will take about 3-4 minutes. Don't close the Obsbot Start App or turn off the device.
  • During the update, the indicator light of Tail 2 will flash blue and yellow alternately.
  • Once the update is complete,  the device will restart and the indicator light will turn green, signaling a successful update.

1. Preparation

Prepare a MicroSD card and a card reader in advance.

2. Download Firmware

Connect the MicroSD card to your computer using a card reader.

Download the .bin firmware file from OBSBOT and drop it into the root folder of the MicroSD card.

3. Install Firmware

Disconnect the MicroSD card from the computer and insert it into Tail 2's MicroSD card slot.

Turn on Tail 2. When the firmware file is detected, the update will start automatically.

Note:
  • During the update process, the indicator light will flash blue and yellow alternately.
  • The update process will take 3-4 minutes.
  • Once completed, Tail 2 will restart, and the indicator light will turn green, indicating a successful update.
Note:
  • Don't disconnect from the network or turn off the device during the upgrade.
  • Close all applications that might use the OBSBOT Tail 2 during the upgrade, such as OBS Studio, Zoom, Skype, and Google Meet.
  • Disable your computer's VPN, firewall, and antivirus applications.

1. Auto Upgrade (Recommended)

  • Turn on the OBSBOT Tail 2. The device is powered on when the green light remains on.
  • Launch the latest OBSBOT Center and connect the Tail 2 through Wi-Fi or a hotspot. Or use a data cable to link to the computer directly.
  • If there is new firmware, a "Firmware Upgrade Info" pop-up will appear. Click "Yes" to continue.

  • After downloading, click "OK", and the firmware file will be automatically uploaded to the SD card.

  • After the firmware file is successfully uploaded, click "OK" to start the upgrade.

  • During the upgrade, the device will restart and disconnect from OBSBOT Center. The blue and yellow lights will flash alternately. When the upgrade is completed, the Tail 2 will reconnect, and the indicator light will stay green. 
  • You can also update the latest firmware version in "Device Management" or "More".

2. Manual Upgrade

  • Turn on the OBSBOT Tail 2. When the green light stays on, the device is powered on.
  • Open the newest OBSBOT Center and connect the Tail 2.
  • Download the latest firmware.

  • Click "Manual Upgrade" under "Device Management", locate and open the downloaded firmware file. The firmware file will be automatically uploaded to the SD card.

  • After the firmware file is successfully uploaded, click "OK" to start the upgrade.

  • During the upgrade, the device will restart and disconnect from the software, and the blue and yellow lights will flash alternately. When the upgrade is completed, the Tail 2 will reconnect, and the indicator light will stay green.
