OBSBOT and 4DV.ai Present Scalable Volumetric Capture System at NAB Show 2026

Partnership Combines OBSBOT Tail 2 PTZ Camera Array with 4DV.ai’s Continuous 4D Gaussian Splatting Pipeline, Bringing Real-Time Volumetric Video to Sports, Film, Live Events, and XR Production

LAS VEGAS, NV, April 20, 2026OBSBOT, a global leader in AI-powered smart videography, and 4DV.ai, a pioneer in continuous 4D Gaussian Splatting technology, today announced a joint demonstration at NAB Show 2026 that marks a significant step toward making volumetric video production practical, scalable, and deployable outside the traditional studio.

The two companies are exhibiting together at Booth C5249, where a synchronized array of approximately 60 OBSBOT Tail 2 cameras feeds 4DV.ai's real-time 4D capture and reconstruction pipeline. The architecture is designed to scale to 200 or more cameras in full production deployments. Attendees can view the results through VR headsets on the show floor, experiencing free-viewpoint volumetric video with photorealistic detail and real-time scene navigation.

"At OBSBOT, our goal has always been to create intelligent, creative partners that help people work smarter, faster, and with far greater creative freedom. This partnership with 4DV.ai marks an important step forward in that journey," said Liu Bo, CEO of OBSBOT. "By bringing together AI-powered PTZ camera systems and next-generation volumetric video technology, we are moving beyond standalone tools toward fully integrated spatial production ecosystems. Together, we are pushing the boundaries of what's possible in real-world environments, and taking a meaningful step toward making volumetric content creation more accessible, scalable, and creatively liberating across industries."

Solving the Volumetric Capture Bottleneck

4D Gaussian Splatting has emerged as one of the most promising technologies for reconstructing dynamic scenes with high visual fidelity and real-time rendering capability. Yet in professional production, the limiting factor has remained the capture pipeline, not the rendering engine. Reliable volumetric reconstruction demands dense overlapping camera coverage, consistently stable footage, and precise per-frame calibration data for every camera in the array.

Conventional volumetric systems were confined to fixed studio rigs. Wider lenses reduced subject resolution. Camera movement broke calibration. Mandatory genlock synchronization added infrastructure cost and complexity.

OBSBOT and 4DV.ai designed their joint system specifically to overcome each of these constraints.

OBSBOT Tail 2 Turns PTZ Cameras into Scalable Capture Nodes

The OBSBOT Tail 2 contributes PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) capabilities that materially expand effective capture volume. Rather than relying on wide-angle lenses that reduces pixel density on faces and fine surface detail, Tail 2 cameras can actively follow subjects while maintaining optimal framing and high resolution throughout a take.

With IP-based multi-camera control, AI Tracking 2.0, smooth PTZR movement, and programmable preset recall, Tail 2 transforms individual cameras into controllable, repeatable imaging nodes. Large-array deployment becomes a systems integration exercise rather than a manual coordination challenge. This approach significantly improves setup efficiency and operational repeatability.

Within this system, PTZ functionality becomes a key enabler of scalable volumetric capture, allowing flexible setups in real-world production environments beyond fixed studios.

4DV.ai Dynamic Calibration for Moving Cameras

Moving cameras introduces a calibration problem that has historically made PTZ-based volumetric capture impractical: how do you maintain precise multi-camera synchronization and solve camera intrinsics and extrinsics frame by frame when the cameras themselves are in motion?

4DV.ai addresses this with a markerless dynamic calibration engine that continuously solves camera intrinsics and extrinsics on a per-frame basis. The system maintains sub-pixel alignment across all camera feeds, even during active pan, tilt, and zoom operations.

This approach reduces reliance on traditional genlock synchronization and enables more portable, cost-effective, and flexible volumetric capture deployments across venues such as sports arenas, film sets, and live event stages.

Jiaming Sun, CEO of 4DV.ai, said: "4D Gaussian Splatting brings volumetric video closer to the vision long imagined in science fiction. Our goal is to build a complete 4D video creation and distribution system that transforms video into interactive, explorable spatial content."

A Scalable System for Real-World Production

Together, OBSBOT and 4DV.ai transform movable volumetric capture from an experimental concept into a deployable, scalable production system. The Tail 2 addresses the engineering challenge of large-range capture; 4DV.ai addresses the algorithmic challenge of maintaining calibration accuracy as cameras move. The combined system delivers:

  • High-detail reconstruction over larger movement spaces without sacrificing resolution for coverage
  • Editable 4D spatial assets ready for re-framing, re-timing, and integration into virtual production pipelines
  • Freedom from fixed-studio constraints, making volumetric capture viable at sports venues, concert stages, film locations, exhibitions, and XR projects
  • A shift from "build-and-rent studio" business models to productized, anywhere-deployable systems, which expands shooting freedom, content diversity, and commercial scalability

Expanding Applications Across Industries

From film and television to live music, fashion, advertising, and sports, 4D video is redefining the boundaries of visual storytelling. Sun sees it as the next era of visual media, and the OBSBOT × 4DV.ai system positions both companies to serve this emerging market at scale.

For OBSBOT, the partnership reinforces the company's strategic vision of intelligent PTZ cameras as reliable infrastructure components in AI-powered production ecosystems. The Tail 2 provides the hardware foundation; 4DV.ai provides the algorithmic engine that makes the full system viable for professional deployment.

The NAB Show 2026 demonstration highlights a critical industry shift: the future of volumetric video depends on the performance of the entire pipeline, from capture and calibration to real-time rendering and delivery.
